Sometimes -- very rarely -- inspiration hits me like a brick to the head, and an image just drops into my brain more or less fully-formed, and then demands that I paint it.
This was one of those. I was scrolling through my collection of art, happened to see this image
and suddenly-- idea.
Special nod too to Suzanne Vega's song "Anniversary," which includes the line thick with ghosts, the wind whips round in circuitries
, and was very appropriate mood music while painting.
I thought it would be a good challenge, to do something with a much more muted color scheme than I generally employ. Though given how bright those leaves turned out to be, I may not have entirely succeeded there. And I wanted to do something that captured the atmosphere of fall, as the year winds down (not that the weather is cooperating with that.)
It was lovely to work in traditional media again, after so much digital. I may have to do something of a companion piece soon.
Colored pencil, ink & watercolor on paper. Original is 14 x 21"
